As a 90's kid that kinda had access to videogames here in Brazil, I share the sentiment with equals that we did live in a cheerful time surrounded by Arcades, Konami, SNK and Capcom games being everywhere with their official presence collabing with the big amusement parks that helped them reach the middle sized arcade owners. Hell, even Taito had ventured in the banana fucking land.
But ok, I just contextualized what gaming is down here to you all. Just like everywhere except east asia, Arcade had a downfall. With imports being extremely prohibitive to afford, we relied on Grandiente (Nintendo partner), and Tec Toy (SEGA partner) to get our good stuff. But hey, let's skip to 99. You may find it funny, but we were part of the party in 99. Of course, the nissei that had the access to the Dream one year previously were showing off or having them in what we call GAME HOUSES (locadoras), where the people that couldn't afford were able to play the new stuff like an arcade. People would set tvs to 1 hour timer, and if you are not able to beat Eggman within that 1 hour, that's on you.
Do I need to tell you how hyped people were for the Dreamcast before it dropped officially? ALL THE GAME HOUSES ALREADY HAD IT RUNNING FOR A WHOLE YEAR BRO, most nihonjin descendants were game house owners. Praise them be! Blessed be thy existances!
Coming to the Dreamcast topic, once Tec Toy dropped their version fo our Dream, having all that blessed lineup available in your retailer nextdoor was like the 3rd part of a show that started 8 years prior with master system and nintendo shelves.
Happy Dreamcast day everybody! It still hurts me of being a latecomer getting the DC as a teen when it was announced that was going to cease production (and that's where I had my contact with PSO, my first online game ever). Heck, I only had a Nintendo 64 for almost 5 years, so when 2000 came and I played SEGA Rally 2 for the first time, and then KOF 98, Blue Stinger, PSO... Whatever we need to say about the platform, the passion is still there among boomers 25 years later. I'm getting old
But these boomers are now earning money, what can we do to hit their kokoro right where it hurts? Well, the infamous publisher Limited Run Games - don't worry, the hyperlik is for a very good critic video - has a bunch of useless shit with stretched artwork for you in partnership with SEGA (who had better partners previously with controller makers).
TA-DAH!!
Are you prepared to waste at least 400 hundred dollars on trashy cropped stretched artwork of your favorite teenage memories, SEGABOOMER-chan? I know i'm not (even If i earned in USD).
Lets go over the prices here
A booster box for two triple-A (or quad-A ubi'games' if ytou most), tranding overpriced boxes for 125 usd. Hell, American tomodachi, what about a BINDER for your not-TCG cards with booklet artwork? SLEEVE CARDS, starage box mockups with the release box artwork! HELL, a f***ing keychain for 10 usd. Are they selling these to little kids?
Not gonna lie, i'm tempted to get the cap for my birthday next month, and maybe the coin because it hits me in the feelz. If I were a skater, i'd definetly get the deck. Other than that, it is safe to assume you can get products on pair on maybe aliexpress. I mean, you can get literal sealed Dreamcast consoles for around that total price.
If you are still willing to get these cards, remember that MAYBE a artbook from SEGA JP like Sega Arcade: Pop-Up History would prolly be a more sober acquisition to celebrate an amazing day. Of course, I'm streaming some Dreamcast games on twitch tonight just like your next sega boomer guy, as I did on the JP release last year. Have fun everyone!
It is still thinking, but not Limited
be safe out there,
