Last Crazy Taxi alpha footage is quite nice. Won't be free

The last CT "Leak" - which of course wasn't a leak at all - shows a more multi-player sandbox arcade gameplay, suggesting different cars beyond your usual Taxis.

From this gameplay I feel there is room to imply:

  • Muulti-Objectives in a map are a thing, in a very similar situation to Forza Horizon.

  • Unified global events like urgent quest and hurricane (forza) are also present in the multiplayer

  • Of course, collabs. Car collabs. Hopefully no Persona 5 collabs so this game won't go EoS right after.

There was some conversation about this being F2P. Honestly? After lenghty discussions about pricing approach after the Concord fail, it is easy to see Crazy Taxi being a 60$USD tagged GaaS, which sucks, but why would it be the case?

FREE OR NOT FREE? Begs the question.

First, the game is pretty much a known established franchise, with strong word of mouth. Nostalgia folks like me will be on the front line to buy it creating the first wave of player population due to the campaign, which I hope exists.

Second, there is nothing on the market like this. Different from the hero shooter market, these "party game like racers" are very different from one another most of the time, so they don't need to prove their value to the consumer so they leave the games they already play. Some failed marketing (and structure) like happened to Chocobo Racer GP and FOAMStars can still happen even if the game is in its niche category though; But It is safe to assume Crazy Taxi still will go as paid for the first year at least.

For last, it is coming out on the beginning of a new fiscal year (still to be defined so I heards), and its development cycle should probably need to be coped fast. Maybe a TF2 situation? Yet to be seen.

Regardless, hopefully it is F2P/Premium approach, with F2P only giving access to the GaaS structure (which probably be the norm moving forward due to European regulations), and Premium 60 USD if you want the whole game with its campaign. SEGA has already done this "divided" approach with Border Breaker, so it is expected to happen to all their GaaS in the future (except mmos).

Not sure about you, but i'm pretty hyped! Imagine a PSO2 collab with it?

Cheers,
